About This Quarry
Historic marble quarry in the Colonnata valley of Carrara, one of three main marble valleys in the region. The Colonnata basin contains the largest and most articulated Roman quarry in Italy, with some sources claiming it's the largest in the world. Multiple family-owned companies operate quarries here including Alba Ventura Srl and Guido M. Fabbricotti. The area is also famous for Lardo di Colonnata, cured pork fat aged in marble basins.
